Chocolate Chip Cake with Banana Base

This chocolate chip cake recipe is not only delicious and moist but healthy in comparison to other homemade treats. It is a also a dessert square that is nicely filling because the base ingredient for this recipe is banana. It is a delicious snack bar that suits any occasion.

It is the ideal square for setting out when company arrives or for taking over to serve up at a friends house. Adults love it but kids love it too. This recipe makes for not only a great dessert for the kids but also serves as a wonderful snack to put into their lunches or for an after school treat as well. I've been making my kids this chocolate chip cake for years now. It is a dessert square recipe that is very versatile and did I mention delicious?

Recipe Ingredients

3/4 cup margarine

2/3 cup sugar

2/3 cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp vanilla

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup chocolate chips

2 cups flour (1 cup white, 1 cup whole wheat)

4 bananas

1 large egg

Mix wet ingredients together first and then add in the dry ingredients. Blend well. Pour into a greased 9x13 dish and bake for 25 minutes at 350.

4. Mix Your Batter Once Again

5. Add the chocolate chips

6. Mix in your chocolate chips

6. Spread Your Cake Batter Into a Greased Baking Dish

7. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
Never be Afraid to Adjust a Recipe to Your Tastes

Add to it: If you like nuts, raisins, cranberries etc. don't be afraid to add it to this recipe. In case you didn't know: Chocolate is an antioxidant rich food so don't be afraid to use it. 

Make it healthier: If you find that there is too much sugar or you don't like to use bleached flour then there are always other options. Use Splenda or reduce the amount of sugar you use. Use unbleached or whole wheat flour. When I first tried this dessert at a friends home I found it too dry for my liking so I doubled the amount of bananas in it. What would you adjust?
